TOUR:
Hiroshima Ancient and Modern

Overview

Miyajima + Peace Park 7 – 8 hours

I think it’s reasonable to say pretty much everyone has heard of Hiroshima, and that many of my guests would agree this tour is one of the best things to do in Hiroshima.

Did you know that for a short time it was the caretaker capital of Japan?

In fact, its historical significance as a center of power traces right back to the 16th century.

Stepping into Hiroshima’s modern history at Peace Memorial Park, and back into its ancient history at the famed shrine island Miyajima to the west of the city and its surrounding area.

We will explore the storied fascinating ancient, and modern history of Hiroshima.

What to look forward to

We will head straight to Miyajima and enjoy a guided tour of its historical religious and cultural structures then go for lunch.

For lunch?  There are a number of options available  I like to offer but I really recommend Hiroshima soul food: Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki  – you may have tried okonomiyaki in Osaka or elsewhere – no comparison to this elegant layered savoury pancake packed full of flavour.

Hiroshima is famed for its own particular version of okonomiyaki, or perhaps you’d prefer other regular Japanese fares.  But let’s work out what option appeals best on the day.

After lunch, we head to Central Hiroshima stopping first at ground zero and the Atomic Bomb Dome followed by a guided tour through the park and its monuments and Memorial Museum sharing the history and facts.

Please note: the best experience is dependent on the tide for the day so I may switch the order of visits to the main attractions.

If you are arriving for a day trip from Kyoto or Osaka, I will be happy to recommend your best inbound train schedule and make return bookings for you.
